Sustainability appraisals and compliance

If you are are using biomass fuels in a system receiving funds through, for example the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) or Renewable Obligations (RO) then you will need to demonstrate that your fuel is coming from a sustainable source.

We can help producers, traders and users of fuel achieve compliance in a number of ways:

For woodfuels being used in RHI projects we can help with Biomass Suppliers List (BSL) applications.
For non-wood fuels being used in RHI projects have developed the Sustainable Fuel Register (SFR). We can provide assistance with filling out the online application.
For biogas and biomethane projects with RHI support we can assist with self-reporting.
For woodfuel and non-woodfuel projects with RO support we can assist with self reporting and auditing.

About Kevin Lindegaard

Kevin Lindegaard has 21 years experience working in the field of energy crops and renewable energy. His knowledge is very widespread covering policy, biomass production, processing, logistics and end use. He has intimate knowledge of the energy crops sector at the micro scale as well as the bigger picture. His work is well respected in the UK and abroad. Since 2015 he has been a Director of Wood Heat Association (the UK trade body) providing input on energy crops and non-woody sources of biomass. He spent 7 years working at Long Ashton Research Station as the plant breeder in charge of the European Willow Breeding Programme. He was responsible for breeding high yielding and disease resistant willow varieties including: Beagle, Quest, Resolution, Discovery, Terra Nova, Nimrod and Endeavour. Other posts include spells with the Swedish company Lantmannen Agroenergi and its UK offshoot Renewable Fuels, the Renewable Energy Development Officer at Dorset County Council and the Centre of Sustainable Energy in Bristol. He set up Crops for Energy in 2004.
