Is a biomass boiler right for you? Be certain that you are making the right decision
The biomass heating industry is growing at a remarkable rate as a result of the incentives offered through the Government’s Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI). In the last year alone there were around 7,000 new non-domestic biomass installations. This is great news for the industry but such a dash for biomass might mean that some projects are installed without due care and attention.
Installing a biomass boiler is a long term commitment and people installing one should really make sure they are doing the right thing and using the right installer before they commit. Unfortunately the mad rush to install a system before a deadline is meaning that people are not getting independent consultants to do a feasibility study and guide them through the process. Although there are lots of companies out there doing a great job, like all industries there are also bound to be cowboys springing up to make a quick buck. Some people will be making a decision based on a flashy brochure and a cheap quote. It’s inevitable that some projects are going to come unstuck.
For customers who would like to take a more considered approach we can provide a service in which we conduct a site visit and appraisal and put together an independent report on the economic and practical feasibility of a project.
This service costs from £500 plus VAT.
The report will typically include the following:
- Details of proposed boiler location, boiler size, any site specific logistics issues
- Wood fuel options (e.g. chip, pellet, log) and pros and cons of these
- Fuel requirements, fuel store size, fuel delivery options, frequency of fuel movements and amount of ash to be disposed of
- Annual rebate value from the Renewable Heat Incentive, annual savings compared to fossil fuels, estimated system cost, payback and return on investment
- Provide technical information and pros and cons of suitable boilers and contact details of recommended installers
We have teamed up with a number of experienced installers and if you choose to proceed with a boiler installation by one of these recommended companies the £500 fee will be deducted from the cost of the boiler installation.
