Growers Required for Miscanthus – Find out more at SW open days
We are delighted to announce that our colleagues at Miscanthus Nursery Ltd will be holding a series of open/demonstration days in October and November. They are seeking new miscanthus growers in the South West to provide material for premier equine and livestock bedding and biomass fuel markets.
The events are by prior booking only and will be held on:
- 24th October – Taunton, Somerset 2pm
- 7th November – Looe, Cornwall 2pm
- 14th November – Truro, Cornwall 1pm
In addition, there will be a drop in open day at St Mabyn, Cornwall on Thursday 28th November 2019 between 11am and 3pm where you can see miscanthus being used as a fuel and the production of animal bedding.
Miscanthus is a non-invasive, perennial, 2nd generation energy crop that grows up to 3 metres tall. It is established from rhizomes and is harvested annually. It uses virtually no chemicals or artificial fertilisers and benefits from applications of ‘dirty water’. It can help with farm biodiversity, reduces the reliance on woodland for biomass production and compliments food production when grown on marginal land. It lasts for 20 plus years without the need to replant, provides soil stability and facilitates the long-term storage of atmospheric carbon dioxide or other forms of carbon to mitigate global warming.
Growing miscanthus provides a real diversification option for farmers and landowners to produce a high output, low input, sustainable crop.
